2-month-old boy passes away days after being discovered unresponsive at a truck stop in Monee

Days after being struck in the head in the southern suburb of Monee, a 2-month-old boy passed away.

According to Monee police, a baby who was not breathing was reported at a truck stop at 5915 Monee Manhattan Road about 8:50 a.m. on August 31.

Sevyn Simmons’ parents met the officers when they arrived and gave them the unconscious baby, according to the police.

Simmons, a Milwaukee resident, was brought to Franciscan Hospital in Olympian Fields before being escorted, according to the police, to Comer Children’s Hospital.

According to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and the police, he suffered head trauma and died on Friday.

His death was declared a homicide by the medical examiner’s office.
