Authorities with the Los Angeles Police Department said on Thursday that a 13-year-old has been detained in connection with the murder of a Highland Park liquor shop clerk, and they are now seeking the public’s assistance in finding the other minor suspects.
Officers from the Northeast Division responded to a robbery report on the evening of October 6 outside Tony’s Market, which is located close to the intersection of Figueroa Street and E Avenue 40.
Investigators quickly found four individuals under the legal drinking age entering the liquor store and attempting to steal many things, including a case of beer, after they arrived on the scene. One of the youngsters ran over 68-year-old Steven Reyes with a scooter when Reyes attempted to stop them.
After being taken to the hospital, Reyes passed away.
