In the South Loop, a man is accused of firing during an attempted carjacking

A man is accused of making a violent attempt to steal an automobile in the South Loop last May.

According to Chicago police, Cortez Crayton, 24, is suspected of shooting a 35-year-old man during an attempted carjacking on May 1 in the 100 block of East 23rd Street.

According to authorities, Crayton was detained on Thursday in the 1100 block of South Oakley Avenue.

He was accused with aggravated attempted vehicle hijacking as well as aggravated battery with a firearm, both crimes.

Friday is Crayton’s scheduled appearance date in bail court.
