In connection with the alleged weekend sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl near Montrose Harbor, a 76-year-old man was ordered to be held without bail on Tuesday.
After approaching the child as she walked alone to the restroom from a family picnic, Juan Roldon enticed her to some bushes, according to Cook County prosecutors.
After being raped, the girl escaped back to her home and alerted her family. Five minutes later, her father went looking for the attacker and confronted Roldon, according to the prosecution. When Roldon denied hitting the girl, the father started to strike him.
According to the prosecution, onlookers broke up the altercation and restrained Roldon until the police came. He was detained and accused of unlawful restraint, criminal sexual abuse, and sexual assault.
Vietnam War veteran Roldon and his wife have resided in a “stable, calm home” for more over 30 years, according to his attorney.
Roldon was being jailed without bail by Judge Maryam Ahmad.
