Since 1996, the Philadelphia 76ers have shared the Wells Fargo Center with the NHL team Philadelphia Flyers.
The Sixers previously tried to establish a basketball-only arena but were turned down in the Penn’s Landing neighbourhood; however, it now appears that they have located a location.
The Philadelphia 76ers announced on Thursday morning that they would be constructing a $1.3 billion arena in Center City.
They would relocate to what is known as the Fashion District in downtown Philadelphia, leaving the stadium district in South Philadelphia.
As the Sixers look for their own place to call home, this is a significant advancement.
Although the Wells Fargo Center is a fantastic location and convenient for fans, they would benefit greatly from having their own arena dedicated to basketball.
