
On a CTA Blue Line train in the Loop early on Tuesday, a man was assaulted and robbed.
Around 1:40 a.m., on a train in the 300 block of South Dearborn Street, a dispute between the 28-year-old male and another person descended into violence, according to Chicago police.
Police reported that in addition to having his wallet stolen, the victim also had bodily bruising. He was taken in good condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
When the train halted, the other passenger got out and ran away, according to authorities. There were no recorded arrests.
According to police data, theft has increased significantly both downtown and on the CTA during the past year.
The 1st police district, which includes the Loop and a significant chunk of downtown, has seen an increase in reports of robberies of 50% over the previous year. Police report that overall crime in the district is up 90% from a year earlier.
