Police: 8-year-old boy unharmed following carjacking in Chatham

The youngster was allegedly inside a Kia in the 8000 block of South Ellis Avenue when someone broke in and fled with him inside, according to the police’s original report.

After further police investigation revealed that an 8-year-old youngster was not taken during a carjacking that occurred Friday night in Chatham on the South Side, the boy is safe.

The youngster was allegedly sitting inside a Kia in the 8000 block of South Ellis Avenue when someone broke in around 4:50 p.m. and drove off with him inside, according to the police’s first report.

After additional examination, the police department declared on Saturday that there was no child in the car, noting that the boy was safe and with family.

Detectives in the area are looking.
