Shooting outside Morgan Park police station leaves woman dead and man wounded

On Sunday night, there was a shooting outside the Morgan Park 22nd District Police Station that left a lady dead and a man injured.

The two were driving northbound on South Vincennes Avenue close to Monterey Avenue shortly after 8 o’clock when a grey Chrysler started pursuing them and someone inside fired several rounds, according to Chicago police.

According to police, the driver, a 42-year-old man, made an effort to flee the suspect by heading toward the 22nd District station.

The suspect’s car pulled up and someone inside fired several shots at them in the 1900 block of West Monterey, according to police. He then drove into the sally port of the station.

Police said the man exited his car and made his way to the station’s entrance, where he was discovered by authorities. He was initially sent to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in a critical condition. He had a graze wound to his lower body, and the police later confirmed that he was in good health.

The 46-year-old lady was shot in the head and transferred to the same hospital, where she was later declared dead, according to the police.

Officers heard gunshots coming from within the station as several bullets struck it, according to the police. To assist the victims, police officers left the station.

The reason behind the pursuit was not immediately apparent.

The shooting, according to Ald. Matthew O’Shea (19th), was “Simply another act of needless violence in our community. Everyone is urged to get to the police. And these criminals were so egregious as to shoot at a police station. Tonight, a woman passed away outside the 22nd District. Nothing to say, it’s very sad.”
