South Shore man on a scooter dies after being hit by a car and being fired

An individual who was hit by a car while riding a scooter in South Shore on Friday night attempted to flee but was shot and killed by the driver of the Hyundai Sonata that hit him, according to Chicago police.

Police say the 22-year-old guy later passed away at University of Chicago Medical Center.

According to police, the collision took place in the 2300 block of East 71st Street around 6:15 p.m. The victim was struck and when someone in the automobile started firing, hitting him in the head and chest, he ran west on 71st Street.

The Sonata then struck a guard rail, according to the police.

There were no recorded arrests.
